A collection of five Chinese porcelain blue and white ‘Long Eliza’ garden scene plates.
China, Kangxi period (1661-1722).

The plates with barbed rim, decorated in the central roundel with an underglaze blue decoration of two ladies or ‘Long Eliza’ in a garden pavilion setting with birds flying around. The rim is molded with petal-shaped panels which are painted with foliage and insects.

Provenance:
Collection van de Wint, Franeker and thence by descent.

Dimensions:
Diameter 21.5 cm, height 3.2 cm.

Condition:
The first plate with some glaze crazing to the center.
The second plate with a hairline to the border of ca. 3.5 cm.
The third plate with some glaze crazing to the center.
The fourth plate with some glaze crazing to the center, two hairlines of 2.5 cm and 3.5 cm, two small rim chips.
The fifth plate with a Y-shaped hairline to the center showing on the front and back of ca. 6 x 8.5 cm, a rim chip resulting in a rim hairline of ca. 2.5 cm.
